Jack Matney counsels clients on intellectual property (IP) transactions, litigation and prosecution, with a particular emphasis in patents. Jack also advises clients on due diligence, trade secret, trademark, and copyright matters. He is the managing shareholder of the DC Office and a member of the Board of Directors for the firm. His practice covers an array of technical subjects, in a number of industries.
Specifically, Jack’s industry experience covers: medical devices, human-donated tissue cleaning and packaging, hydrocolloid and silver-impregnated wound gauzes, blood glucose meters, chemotherapy compounds and treatments, pharmaceuticals, heating packs, and telecommunications (satellite communications systems, software and Internet-related inventions, video display devices, telephonic switching devices, and semiconductor manufacturing).
In manufacturing, his work involves technology relating to textiles, narrow elastics, dye formulations, laser treatments, automotive components, sheet metal processing, catalysts, paper converting machines, check valves and associated enclosures, thermoplastic extrusion and molding, adhesive bonding, and air and water pollution treatment devices.
After working as an engineer for The Dow Chemical Company in both Midland, Michigan and Dalton, Georgia, Jack started his intellectual property career as a Patent Examiner with the United States Patent and Trademark Office and continued to work full-time while attending law school in the evenings at the George Washington University Law School. Jack is a licensed professional engineer.
