Glenn E. J. Murphy – Patent Expertise

Mr. Murphy joined RatnerPrestia having prepared and prosecuted patent applications since 1990 for large entities in a wide range of chemical, mechanical, and pharmaceutical arts in both private and corporate positions. As Senior Patent Attorney for the Henkel Group from 1997 to 2007, he prepared and/or prosecuted to issuance more than 200 U.S. patents involving detergents, cosmetics, coatings, inks, adhesives, nutritional supplements, and related mechanical and design applications. Leading patent committees, providing advice through acquisitions, divestitures, and other transactions, and managing inter partes disputes and litigations, Mr. Murphy developed an approach to developing and managing patent portfolios that is practical and business-focused.

Before joining Henkel, Mr. Murphy worked at two major East-coast law firms, gaining substantial patent prosecution and litigation experience, particularly in the pharmaceutical arts. From 1984 to 1987 he was an applications engineer with the Cochrane Division of Crane Company, designing large-scale industrial water treatment systems for utilities, defense contractors, and other major industrial segments, including chemicals, automotive, food processing, petroleum, and paper and pulp. Mr. Murphy uses his industrial experience and diverse background in both corporate and private legal practice to understand his clients’ concerns quickly and to craft useful patents for their businesses.

Mr. Murphy is a member of RatnerPrestia’s Biotechnology, General Chemistry and Polymers and Pharmaceutical Chemistry Groups.
