RP’s Joshua L. Cohen Keynotes at Lehigh University Symposium on Supply Chain Research

Philadelphia, PA | April 2022 – Joshua L. Cohen presented Strategic Patenting in Complex Supply Chains at the Spring Symposium of the Center for Supply Chain Research at Lehigh University (CSCRL) on April 22, 2022.

Cohen remarked, “Unique combinations of disparate technologies in today’s products make for complex supply chains, presenting both IP risks and opportunities.”

Using the supply chain ecosystem of autonomous vehicles as a case study, Cohen illustrated how strategic patenting can safeguard firms’ downstream sales, safeguard their upstream supplies, and protect their exclusive positions as both customers and suppliers up and down the supply chain.  He also presented strategies for navigating third-party patent rights of competitors, upstream suppliers, and downstream customers.  The CSCRL Spring Symposium, titled Utilizing Technology for Competitive Advantage in the Supply Chain, brought together top managers from industry, academics, and students.  Cohen opened his keynote by thanking Dr. Zach Zacharia, Director of CSCRL, for inviting him to speak on the interplay between IP and supply chain optimization, two fields demanding heightened attention in boardrooms as well as today’s popular press.
