Philadelphia, PA | June 2018 – RatnerPrestia is pleased to announce that Andrew J. Koopman has become a Shareholder of the firm, effective June 1, 2018.
Andy joined RP in 2008 and has most recently held the position of Associate. He specializes in both patent litigation while also handling an active high-end prosecution docket. He also handles inter partes review matters and trademark litigation.
His educational background in physics defines his philosophy with clients: the best client service begins with the fundamentals. A clear understanding of a client’s fundamental objectives, as well as their technology, is essential to developing a comprehensive intellectual property strategy. Through his familiarity with the many different areas of intellectual property law, Andy works with clients to insure their fundamental goals become reality.
RP CEO, Jonathan Spadt, notes, “Andy was impressive from day one. His extraordinary attention to detail and drive for perfection stood out to me. He recognizes the reality of constraints, but never fails to put forth an intense effort on every matter he handles. He never says no and there’s nothing to which he won’t commit. In a word, he is driven.”
“Since my first days working here, I have felt that RatnerPrestia is a perfect fit for motivated young intellectual property attorneys,” Andy explained. “The culture in this firm is one of consistent improvement both personally and professionally. I have been privileged to work with many of my colleagues in my time here, and I have found each one dedicated to providing the best client counsel and high quality work product.”
Andy co-chairs the firm’s Post Grant Practice Group, a role which has included his successful defense and prosecution of inter partes reviews before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. He also writes a chapter on Noninfringement and Invalidity Opinions in the American Intellectual Property Law Association’s Electronic and Software Patents textbook, which is updated annually. On multiple occasions, Andy has spoken at the Pennsylvania Bar Institute’s IP Law Institute on subjects including patent subject matter eligibility. Andy has four times been named a Pennsylvania Rising Star in the areas of intellectual property and intellectual property litigation. He earned his Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering Physics from Cornell University, along with a minor in Electrical Engineering.
