Mr. Phelps is experienced in all aspects of patent law, with his primary focus being patent prosecution, product clearance and strategic patent counseling. Prior to joining RatnerPrestia, Phelps was a partner in the Intellectual Property group at a large international general practice law firm, and prior to that, worked as a research and development engineer at Reynolds Metals Company in Richmond, Virginia. At that time, Phelps also enjoyed serving as an engineer and crew chief for a professional automobile racing team. His team built several endurance racing cars to compete in the Rolex 24 At Daytona, the Twelve Hours of Sebring, and other automobile races.
Mr. Phelps received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Virginia and his J.D. from Washington and Lee University School of Law. He is admitted to practice before the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) and is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania. Mr. Phelps is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA).
