On April 11, Rex A. Donnelly, Managing Shareholder of RatnerPrestia’s Wilmington office, spoke about the practicalities of Intellectual Property Law to a group of new and existing entrepreneurs as a guest speaker for the FastTrac® New Ventures™ / FastTrac® Growth Ventures™ program. The Delaware Economic Development Office (DEDO) conducts the program as a Certified Affiliate for both the Kauffman FastTrac® New and Growth Venture programs and has graduated over 160 firms from the program. Ken Anderson of DEDO is Delaware’s Kauffman FastTrac® Program Director for Delaware. FastTrac® is an entrepreneurial learning program facilitated by entrepreneurs, for entrepreneurs, continually developed by the Kaufman Foundation, which is devoted to advancing entrepreneurship as one of the fundamental aspects of life in the United States. DEDO’s New Venture program, aimed at entrepreneurs just starting companies that have a good prospect for success, brings together a group of committed entrepreneurs for four hours a day, twice a week, for five weeks. In addition to discussing the basic costs and general strategies relating to trademarks, patent, copyrights, and trade secrets, Mr. Donnelly also gave each entrepreneur a copy of RatnerPrestia’s Intellectual Property Survival Guide, which outlines the importance of understanding, managing, and enforcing intellectual property as an integral part of a good business plan.
