Valley Forge, Pa., January 2009 – The December issue of Technology Transfer Tactics reports on the University of Delaware’s initiative to more effectively convert the University’s emergent technology into commercial use.  The report details the strategy and process developed by the University’s Office of Economic Innovation and Partnerships and RatnerPrestia’s unique role in that strategy and process.  According to Rex Donnelly, RatnerPrestia’s relationship manager for the partnership, all parties benefit from RatnerPrestia’s active participation in the development and evaluation of invention disclosures as part of its patent preparation and prosecution efforts  This team approach with RatnerPrestia “ … frees us from having to worry about the patent procurement efforts and deadlines so that we can use our staff for marketing-related purposes” according to a quote in the report from Dr. Bruce Morrissey, Director of Technology Development in the University’s Office of Economic Innovation and Partnerships.

Stephen Weed, who heads RatnerPrestia’s University and Research Institute initiative, also praises the success of the partnership from the firm’s standpoint.  “Our collaboration with the University of Delaware,” according to Mr. Weed, “is truly a win-win arrangement, based on common objectives and mutual trust.  We hope to develop similar relationships with other universities and research institutes.”  As part of the firm’s initiative, RatnerPrestia recently began hosting a regional meeting of technology transfer officers.
