Mr. Berkowitz has worked for over 8 years preparing and prosecuting patent applications.

 

Prior to joining RatnerPrestia, Mr. Berkowitz’s primary responsibility included the preparation and prosecution of foreign origin applications from major consumer products companies.  He rewrote hundreds of such applications and successfully prosecuted them in the United States.  While at RatnerPrestia, Mr. Berkowitz has drafted many new applications, has successfully obtained patent protection for his clients in the United States and has directed prosecution of U.S. origin applications in such countries as Japan, Germany, China, Canada and Great Britain.  Mr. Berkowitz is familiar with the patent systems of many foreign countries, as well as with the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) and strategically files foreign and PCT applications when appropriate for client needs.

 

Mr. Berkowitz engages each of his clients to understand their businesses and their IP portfolios to make the best choices with regard to IP issues.  He leverages his strategic and business planning background in this effort to quickly assess each client’s business model and to understand the client’s key technological and business initiatives.
