Eric Berkowitz began his career in intellectual property in 2001, after 15 years of broad based experience in electrical engineering and strategic planning.  Mr. Berkowitz's in-depth experience as a strategic thinker at a Fortune 500 corporation makes him uniquely qualified to assess clients’ intellectual property portfolios and help direct their intellectual property planning efforts.
 
Mr. Berkowitz’s practice focuses on the preparation and prosecution of patent applications in a variety of electrical and computer arts including: software, network security, communication systems, displays, optical devices, electronics, semiconductor devices, electromechanical devices, control systems, power systems and consumer goods.  He has managed intellectual property matters for both small and large clients including preparing and prosecuting hundreds of patent applications and counseling of clients regarding their intellectual property rights. 
 
Prior to practicing, as an intellectual property attorney, Mr. Berkowitz earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from the University of Pennsylvania.  After graduation, he worked for a large electric utility in an engineering capacity evaluating communication systems and developing power systems and then in a strategic planning capacity performing technical reviews of major Information Technology projects and negotiating outsourcing agreements with major Information Technology vendors.  As an engineer, Mr. Berkowitz worked with diverse technologies including wired and wireless communications, photovoltaics, power systems and advanced electrical metering.
 
Mr. Berkowitz attended Rutgers Camden Law School at night while gaining engineering experience.  He is an active member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association and is a member of RatnerPrestia's Electrical / Computer / Business Method Group.
